I am Miss Jaime and this is my blog about my life as a new teacher. I have a Bachelor of Education from McGill University, and a strong background in dance that I've put to use as a dance teacher for the last six years. I am just over halfway through my first school year since graduating from McGill in May 2014 and have decided to share some of my experiences.
Teaching jobs are not easy to come by where I'm from, so I was very lucky to land the job of "Roving Substitute" slash lunch monitor at a local private school right after graduation. I do lunch duty in the cafeteria and in the schoolyard every day and I sub a minimum of 12 hours every week. I never know what grade I'll be thrown into or what I'll be teaching, so, in a school that teaches in three different languages, I need to be ready for anything at the drop of a hat. Being a sub is not exactly what they train you for in teachers' college and the job comes with a whole other set of challenges (including getting unexpected wake-up calls from the school's administrative assistant at 6 am Monday morning).
Until I do manage to land my own class and real teaching gig, this blog will consist of my experiences in my current, strange but incredibly amazing job, the challenges I'm facing as the year goes on, and the many lessons I'm learning along the way.
My job continues to surprise me every single day, and this is my way of sharing those surprises with the world.
Enjoy!
Miss Jaime
